Ode to The Casual Times that Have Shaped Me

Porch steps are for whisper down the lane
And chalk masterpieces
That will never make it to museums,
Scrapped knees
And rosy cheeks
Losing your other shoe even though you don't remember just wearing your socks;

I can't simply count all the porch steps I've sat on
Soaking in all the bee stings you've gotten
All the times we've forgotten
Throwing up vanilla ice cream and not eating it for a year afterwords
Catching fireflies and
Running home before dark;

Sometimes
in between all the
Late night text messages and beer encrusted sleepovers
I've found I forgot the lose change in my pockets
Piggy banks burried in your closet
Diaries I wrote in once and then disaster
Watching my uncle smoke into suburbia and speak of the moon;

Sometimes I think you need those things,
Sometimes I know I miss those things,
But mostly
I hope when the children I haven't even known yet
Their legs and arms far from grown yet
Will know what I mean
Please don't ditch such adventures for unmemorable ipad games
Just because we've advanced so easily
Doesn't mean we can't thrive from simplicity
Please dont forget me
Yet
