Nymph In A Dark Forest
you took me to the dark forest
where the trees
were twisted & stunted
their roots ran deep
but they drank from fetid waters
no leaves adorned their branches
neither shade or relief
from the scorching sun
they were an eye sore
to all that beheld them
they bore poisonous fruit
that would cause delirium
beguiled & under your spell
I thought myself in lush place
where I could restore myself
all the while the sun beat down on me
as it emptied my soul
my screams of madness echoed
through this desolate place
& reached the ears
of the king of this realm
he took pity on me
freed me from the delusions
brought me to the great woodlands
of my childhood
where I could roam naked & free
a wild nymph of the forests
child of the moon
my soul renewed

At times we are met with unexpected ugly in what we held dear. It's in those moments that we need to remember the beauty of what we learned from them...and then let the rest go. For our own sakes we must release the pain and move on. That last stanza brought me big smiles. I too am a child of the moon and forest. We can run free and naked together! Much love, beautiful Angel

My Beautiful Brenda, such weighted darkness in the beginning to this and those last stanzas lifted all weight and all I could see was you in the forest, looking up with a smile on your face.......and then I scared the shit out of you when I ran up behind you and scooped you up!

The mythic simplicity of this is just perfect. It's a pitch-perfect melding of those mythic images and ideas with very personal biographical matter. I adore it. It's like a poem that would have been recited to the playing of a lute in ancient times.
