the meeting
we exchanged greetings
eyes connecting
you leaned toward me
checked my name tag
your jaw dropped
as it dawned on us then that
we knew each other
back when we were young
memories flooding our minds
not a word spoken of them
except for your mournful ohhhhs
as you noticed I no longer
wore a wedding band
your wide-mouthed grin
spoke volumes
as did your eyes that
at first stared rigidly
at me until they
grew so big they looked
like they could pop out
of your head
I slipped my tongue
towards my upper lip
then you beat on your
puffed up chest
with the fist of one hand
grinning mischievously at me
we both laughed
when you shook
your rear from side to side
then our eyes locked
you winked and
flashed me that
familiar smile
then with lips closed
nostrils flaired you drew in
my scent not once
but twice as though
you were savoring it
and saving it
to take along with you
