Evidence That Mary Magdalene Had Been A Prostitute

We read that Christ cast 7 demons out of her (Luke 8.2).
Instead of mindlessly taking this literally we can take the number seven as code.
I mean it may stand for the seventh of the "Ten Commandments."
And that is "Thou shalt not commit adultery. "
(Im going by the Jewish way of counting the Ten Commandments, of course.)
So the message is that Mary was guilty of committing adultery.
In the Ten Commandments adultery is forbidden, while prostitution is not mentioned.
Does that mean it is OK?? Of course not. Actually adultery here is shorthand for sexual sins in general.
So the commandment against adultery covers prostitution as well.
On that basis we can speculate that Mary was not so much an adulterer as much as a prostitute !!

What additional evidence is there that Mary had been a hooker??
Well "Magdalene" means "of Magdala," a resort town on the shore of the Sea of Galilee.
Well, according to some Bible commentary I read, there was a garrison of Roman soldiers stationed there, if I remember correctly.
If we can assume that most of those soldiers were single, this suggests that they might have had an interest in dating women who required money - prostitutes.

If Mary Magdalene was a prostitute, this would explain just how she had acquired enuff money to buy a jar of spikenard, expensive perfume that cost a whole year's wages.(John 12.3 - 5).

PS: the reason I wanted to spend time on this subject is this. An otherwise intelligent Christian writer named Lee Stroble has claimed, "There is no evidence that Mary Magdalene ever was a prostitute."
Now if he had said "no proof" that would be  OK. For proof means convincing evidence.
But for him to say "no evidence", not even the smallest amount,
that is just plain ridiculous.
For I have presented it right here.

PS: "300 dinarii" (John 12.3-5) is given as the value of the "oil of spikenard."
But a single dinar was a day's wage (for day laborers?), according to a Bible commentary or almanac I read.
So the perfume really did equal about a year's wages, like I said.
