Sparky the Firefly

"I’m Sparky the Firefly
my tail is so bright,
it blinks on and off
all day and all night.

As I fly through the woods
and look down below,
I see my friends waving
and saying ‘Hello’.

There’s Grandaddy Longlegs
a wise, old spider,
with Bibi, the Ladybug
and Rose right beside her.

Good morning my friends
it’s so great to see you,
let’s all play a game
we'll have fun as we do.”

But Bibi said, “Sparky,
right now we can’t play,
we all have to do our
Spring cleaning today.

We clean up our homes
from the bottom to top
we will vacuum and dust
and we’ll scrub and then mop.

We do this all day
and we do it non-stop!”

Sparky wanted to help
but didn’t know how,
and no one had time
to teach him right now.

So he became sad
in fact, Sparky cried,
his light wasn’t blinking
it turned off inside.

So Grandaddy said
“Here’s what I can do,
I’ll give you my gloves
so you can help too.

The reason my family
had kept them so long,
is because they can make you
be helpful and strong.

They’re such special gloves
and will help you to clean,
just put them on, Sparky
you’ll see what I mean.”

So he did. Then suddenly
his wings felt much lighter,
his light began blinking;
the blink was much brighter.

Sparky just glowed
with a smile on his face,
he flew away fast
to clean Grandaddy’s place.

Sparky then dusted
and scrubbed and he mopped,
he vacuumed the cobwebs
from bottom to top.

When he finished he flew off
to see his friend Rose,
with his gloves he washed dishes,
he even washed clothes.

He then visited Bibi
for two or three minutes,
he cleaned her whole house
and everything in it.

Sparky then heard
someone knock at the door,
it was Grandaddy Longlegs
and Rose from before.

“You did it,” said Rose,
“you cleaned up our homes,
your gloves may have helped
but you did it alone!”

“I did!” Sparky said
“and I did it with love,
I cleaned them myself,”
he then took off the gloves.

He smiled and placed
the gloves onto a shelf,
they did help him learn
to believe in himself.
