How Do I Say Goodbye
The loss of a loved one, heart wrenching
death of my mother, paralysing
In her passing, I died too
spirit broken, struggling through
Eleven years, my morning unfinished
as if her value would be diminished
Strongest person I have known
feeling her absence in every bone
Knowing not how to be whole
this suffering takes its toll
In my dreams, I feel our paths cross
cannot recover from such tragic loss

My heart feels for you on this, Mel. There really are no words to replace the loss; however, there us the love of family and friends that give us will to carry on.
I was never afforded the time to meld a bond of deep friendship with my mother, as I lost her after a five year bout with cancer when I was barely 18 (she was 34). I was still in that semi-rebellious stage. And honestly didn't think she was dying. I often wonder what kind of friends we would've become had she lived.
I envy you that.

Thank you Ahavati. I truly cherish every moment we had. I am willing to bet your mother looks down on you with pride because that is what a mother does despite our teen aged angst.

I feel the same way about my mother - I keep her with me instead of saying goodbye - the end of grief does not require separation - Life is just different :-)
