When I Find Courage
My past does not define me
It rests within my mind
My future does not control me
It merely represents a guide
My worth is not measured
By how much someone cares
My esteem relies on my perceptions
Go ahead, question if you dare
The bruises that I carry
Do not reflect on my courage
Raise your hand and force it down
I will not be discouraged
Cast your stones and aim at me
One more hit? Doesn’t matter
I have not the ability to care
From my pain is endless chatter
The look of hurt on my face no more
My senses have grown immune
The words that hurt with every breath
No longer scare me of you
One day you will see me not
No more anger to release upon
My head will still be held up high
When I find courage to move along
It rests within my mind
My future does not control me
It merely represents a guide
My worth is not measured
By how much someone cares
My esteem relies on my perceptions
Go ahead, question if you dare
The bruises that I carry
Do not reflect on my courage
Raise your hand and force it down
I will not be discouraged
Cast your stones and aim at me
One more hit? Doesn’t matter
I have not the ability to care
From my pain is endless chatter
The look of hurt on my face no more
My senses have grown immune
The words that hurt with every breath
No longer scare me of you
One day you will see me not
No more anger to release upon
My head will still be held up high
When I find courage to move along
