Daddy's Eyes
A reflection of deception...
She looked at me
as if she were looking at him.
She stated her obvious observation:
"You look just like your father."
Her words were hard to swallow...
I reluctantly peer at the fun house mirror
For I am the host my own freak-show
I walk through familiar doorways
Desperately searching for vacancy
Within my own home
The echoes of past chime too loud
Invoking skeletons buried and barred
The time capsule's time was up
Things once concealed
Now dug up
A little boy grew to a man...
That looks just like Him...
I wish he saw the things I have seen
I wish he could see
For my eyes resemble
Those eyes of his
But my eyes have seen more
Than his ever did
She looked at me
as if she were looking at him.
