Barred Words

I don't want to argue
But words dance on my tongue
Too close to my lips
To the beat of a bruised heart

Wouldn't it be nice to be so serenely stoic
I bite my tongue in failed attempts
But caged birds long to sing
Beyond the bars and lips that bind

My intentions hunger but strive not to sting
They simply wish to feel the wind
Beneath their outstretched wings...

And should they perch on a listening heart
What chaos could that start
And should you hear their sweet release
Would you sway or stray
From their constant beat

Stoicism is a path I dare not tread tonight
I cannot swallow the glass quite right
No matter how the lips pressed tight
For my barred words long to be heard
And soar your skies ever deeply
Instead of returning to the broken binds
That have uprooted within me...

Should we both outstretch our wings
Might we lyricize a duet to sing
And Should we both decide to dance
Might our invocations pave warm entrance

Sing with me
Invite the words poisonously burrowed
In the deepest pages of your buried journal

Unleash to me the truth of you
I will happily devour its pages in full
And take these words from out my lips
Before their venom takes it toll
