The Nest
the morning saw I woke
curled up tight in a ball
a cocoon of safety
surrounded by blankets, toys
high off the ground
waiting to fall
my bed is like a nest
and I the fledgling inside
tentatively stepping on branches
flapping wings in anticipation
and hopping on the ground
the morning saw I woke
curled away in my nest
the world yet to breath
awake before the mother
content in the silence and
gazing at the beams of light
that float among blankets, toys
the morning saw I woke
curled up contentedly around
the last dredges of dreams
safe and warm in my nest
curled up tight in a ball
a cocoon of safety
surrounded by blankets, toys
high off the ground
waiting to fall
my bed is like a nest
and I the fledgling inside
tentatively stepping on branches
flapping wings in anticipation
and hopping on the ground
the morning saw I woke
curled away in my nest
the world yet to breath
awake before the mother
content in the silence and
gazing at the beams of light
that float among blankets, toys
the morning saw I woke
curled up contentedly around
the last dredges of dreams
safe and warm in my nest
