The start of something, you
He sat, awkwardly fidgeting with his fingers while he thought of something to say.
His brow furrowed,sweat lining the collar of his shirt, his throat began to swell.
"It really was cute" she said, as if this would console his freshly broken spirit.
He remained plagued with inaction and had no words to express how befuddled his mind had become.
"Everything was going smoothly and I ruined it " he thought as he struggled to replay what had occurred.
Thinking of what he had said for a second time only brought more pain.
His sweat, now mixed with tears, had streamed off of his brow and into his eyes.
He now found solace in the fact that he had physical pain to mask the emotional pain for his mistake this night.
Finally they both faced one another,it was a pitiful sight to see.
She knew he meant well she wanted to say everything was ok. She wanted to.
But her mind meandered endlessly failing to put thoughts into words.
"Sorry" was all that she mustered.
"It's not your fault I'm weird" he said half heartedly.
"Want me to take you home" she asked rather bluntly.
He wanted nothing more than to be home but he enjoyed seeing her beautiful face too much.
"No" he said. His mind already trying to find a way to salvage his mess.
If not tonight than another he thought. Unaware of how different his life would soon be.
