anticipating poetic nemesis on a friday
voices like us
live in fear we've written our last
most mornings that fear jangles awake
always ready to out stare creativity
the curse of the cursor
busy playing god on a blank page
it's blinking while we check the weather
smirking over the second cup
our human side suckered
by phoney diversions
the screech of skates skittering
across a frozen literary lake
before the real business
reminds us it's time
to hit the gritty keystrokes
and write the day
before poetic limbo leans in
but when the egg cracks open
we may not realize
it's our tantalizing last write
half a masterpiece perfectly formed
a beautiful deep yellow
virgin poem yolk
hanging nebulous in space
the puff of smoke ending
always elusive
grinding to a halt midway
it can never be finished
until death
some unnatural disaster
or an awesome dirty weekend
intervenes
