I shine

I couldn't sleep last night
tried to walk and ease my mind
looked up in awe as I saw
the stars fall from the sky
I stooped and scooped a scattered shard
asking "Why star,WHY?
how could you drop and leave so lonely
only cold dark night"
and in a muttered muffled stutter
came a voice that made my soul cry
"It pains us to remain
in that space" was replied
I was amazed in my engagement
with the stars, I was their plight
how could I be so silly selfish
to demand they shine so bright
and then the soft voice came again
invoking tears I tried to fight
it said,"We came to be with you,
for you are our star light!"
I turned to face the shattered pieces
of my own torn life
and knew what I had to do
took a breath... exhale... ignite...
I shine
