Huxley's Song
You must think I'm rather apathetic, Dauger,
When and if I think of those still trapped inside this place.
And yes, perhaps I come across as heartless, selfish,
My methods are draconian, but when you get down to the base
Of everything I've worked for, of everything that I have planned;
I'm working toward a purpose, and I know that you don't understand.
Now Edmund please sit still now and just listen, closely,
In a few short hours you won't know we spoke at all.
I know that you're still looking for that moron, Miller,
You think that he can help you, but Icarus will make you fall.
Perhaps it's for the best if I let you try to take a stand.
You'll find out the hard way, and then maybe you'll understand
Why I ever made this dreadful Inner Office,
Why I play the tormentor (I swear it's not for fun):
Every camel's back needs one more straw to break it;
Before they go on rampages, each monster used to be someone.
And so I'm making monsters; it's a role that's needed, and it's mine.
They call me Echidna, but I chose this fate, I'm Frankenstein!
To be honest I'll be sad to see you go Ed,
But business is business, and we've both got fish to fry.
Still I cannot help but wonder what might have been
If only there were some way that we could see things eye to eye.
You would have been my masterpiece and shaken this place to its core,
But instead you challenged me, well. I don't mean to be a bore.
The Pantheon will break you, and it's almost a shame,
But if I have regrets I'll only have myself to blame.
When and if I think of those still trapped inside this place.
And yes, perhaps I come across as heartless, selfish,
My methods are draconian, but when you get down to the base
Of everything I've worked for, of everything that I have planned;
