I was Raised
I was raised to believe
That I could change
That if discipline was implemented
And habits were stripped
I could become more like...
Fill in the blank of parental pressures
I was told
If I just tried
This unkept,
Independence
Without a road
This desire to go
Be a part of
Everything
But be attached to
Nothing
Could be suppressed
Into something
Useful
I was raised to believe
I was to be anyone but me
To be grounded
And stable
And not to think so deep
Put more effort into
Education
Words being spewed at me
That may as well be foreign
I have always been a star
Amongst the company
Of suns
Words and chalkboards
Don't absorb in my thoughts
Experiences do.
I was raised to believe
That people such as I
Will always be lost
Either in mind
Or in place
Or in misunderstandings
Attached to nothing
But connecting to everything.
That I could change
That if discipline was implemented
And habits were stripped
I could become more like...
Fill in the blank of parental pressures
I was told
If I just tried
This unkept,
Independence
Without a road
This desire to go
Be a part of
Everything
But be attached to
Nothing
Could be suppressed
Into something
Useful
I was raised to believe
I was to be anyone but me
To be grounded
And stable
And not to think so deep
Put more effort into
Education
Words being spewed at me
That may as well be foreign
I have always been a star
Amongst the company
Of suns
Words and chalkboards
Don't absorb in my thoughts

I was raised to believe

Attached to nothing
But connecting to everything.
