GENERATION X
We’re the generation
that had it all figured out
We knew all of life’s short cuts
without a doubt
Our parents were schmucks
who did it the hard way
The rejection of their norms
came with great dismay
We plowed ahead
without revoke
So, how did our lives
become such a joke?
Whatever happened
to our teenage moxy?
We’d never accept
our parent’s mundane jobs
We were going to be millionaires,
actors and rock stars!
Someone should have told us,
“no mother fuckers
you’re going to be divorced,
bankrupt, and hanging out in bars!”

As someone from generation X who wanted to be an actress, this poem made me laugh out loud!
