Make a Wish

 I imagined the rubbing of the lamp
I lived in hope a Genie would appear
With all three wishes as yet unspent
I would wait in vain, unsurprisingly
I have met no mage warlock or witch
Who could grant me my ultimate wish
I have met no doctor or consultant surgeon
No faith healer, no shaman, no witch doctor
That can make my ultimate wish come true
There’s an organisation, a charitable venture
That can send me on a Disneyland holiday
Or a narrow boat trip on the Norfolk Broads
They can get me in to see a Broadway show
They can help me meet my favourite celebrity
I could get to drive round Branshatch at speed
I could swim with playful dolphins or sharks
I could ride in a hot air balloon above the tree tops
All these wishes and more, they can grant you
They say they are in the make a wish business
It’s just a pity they can’t grant anyone’s first wish
They can’t cure cancer
They can’t cure Leukaemia
They can’t make you live any longer
They can’t prevent your untimely death
They can grant certain wishes
Any wish but the most important one
Still wishing not to die
