"If you ever want to run away..."
When I close my eyes at night I see you
With big blue eyes
Standing under street lights
Promising the future
Being reckless and wild and young
I remember the way your hand felt in mine
The way you'd kiss me seven times before you left
I remember being crazy
I'd do anything for you
Go anywhere for you
Be anyone for you
Maybe that's too much for a twenty-one year old
A kid that hasn't seen the world
But I was yours
That's what I wanted to be
When I close my eyes at night I can hear my phone ring
4:57 am
Good news waits for the sun to rise
I've never prayed so much to a god I don't believe in
I remember the way your hand felt in mine
The way I kissed you seven times before I left
I remember going crazy
I couldn't eat
I couldn't sleep
I couldn't breathe
It was the last straw on the proverbial camel's back
I still haven't seen the world
But it gets easier
That's how I need it to be.
"...just run to me instead."
