je' ne sais pas
it’s too beautiful, too beautiful,
that we must name it je’ ne sais pas
she speaks so softly that I can’t hear;
her words must be sexy & loving & my name too
but her sighs, her deep breathing,
those I hear clearly, the sounds
a woman makes when she’s touching herself
she’s lying there, my voice at her ear
she’s wearing pajamas, & she’s much too sexy to be
unexposed, the loose top pushed madly above her tits
& the bottom in a glamorous mess below her knees,
she’s pinching her nipples that I’m sucking in my beige room
somewhere, & her fingers, her fingers, je’ ne sais pas
I am pacing like a beast locked away from his mate & I
promise her that no man could want her as much as I want her
& she says ‘me too,’ I think, but I can’t hear, her moan is a
little louder, the sound of ecstasy breaking crystal, & in the
shimmering space between us a great bouquet of flowers
in radiant colors blossoms & the ghost of desire cries
in our hearts for something that we cannot name
then suddenly, too suddenly, there is silence,
we are lost to the sublime dismissal
of a dead cell phone battery
I kiss her & she is gone
but we never say goodbye…
