Lilly & The Bear

There was once a little girl who was pure of heart in every way
Until walking a long the woods she met a ferocious bear one day
His size and roar at first intimidated the child
She saw right through him, and knew he wasn't wild
Grabbing his hand confused the bear
She seemed to actually care
"My name is Lilly, what's your name?" she spoke with a smile
The bear looked at her and said "Miles"
Which is the distance they had been walking
Neither of them noticed because they were talking
"You know these woods are dangerous for a little girl like you"
"Well it's okay, because you're here, even though you are cute"
The bear honored she put so much trust into him
His first friend and he would protect her from any bad men
Every day they would meet on the same path and begin their quest
Playing games, conversing and sharing joy, it is what they did best
As the girl grew older, their time together began to wither
The bear all alone began to miss her
To miss the hours of fun they would share
She was the only one who cared
She would visit often until their final day
The bear was not prepared for the words she had to say
"Miles I'll miss you, but I'm moving far far away"
The bear began to tear "Oh how I wish you could stay"
"When I'm older I'll visit I promise you, you'll always be in my heart"
After she said that was when the tears falling began to start
"Ok, I will wait for your return"
After a hug, she left and he already began to yearn
For her presence and friendship for he knew she would be gone awhile
Years have passed, towns changed, kids going through their styles
Miles still waits for Lilly's return, hoping she would keep her promise
The bear, now ripe with age and wisdom has little time left on his clock
One day he saw her in the distance, as his heart began to stop
She kept her promise and now he could die with a smile
As he laid in her arms, life fading slow, she said "I love you Miles"
