"Perpetually Chasing"

Is this not the life you perpetually seek?
Is this not the prayer you silently speak?
Is this not the future you wish to keep?

Lost in the mindset of what could be,
The frailty of the moment slips by without notice
Gliding on wings that spread far and wide,
But have no feathers or skin to bind.
The wings that carry your dreams astray
Naked and vulnerable, beaten, torn, and frayed.

While lost in the mindset of what could be,
You have failed to capture what should have been.
The moment that kept you awake at night,
A perfect spectacle you lived in dreams
Gone and past – fleeting and expired.
Lost to the affliction of your soul and cruelty of your eyes
You can only gaze at the life you left behind.

Lost in the mindset of what could be
There is never any time for correction of your mistakes
As you leave yourself beaten, torn, and frayed.
Reminiscing morphs us into ghosts – naked and exposed
Invisible yet clearly seen through eyes of a blind man’s sight
There is not a debate to be had
When time reaches its inevitable end.

So remember never render, or allow thyself to become
Lost in the mindset of what could be.
Thru times gloriously bright and painfully dark
Protect the special memories that ignite a spark.
From the evil that resides in the shadows,
Gliding wings that spread far and wide
But has no feathers or skin to bind.

Until the final breath is drawn from your chest
Defend from attack this angel’s hand.
Passing slowly into new life
Born again – witness thyself be remade anew
Clothed and protected, with a soul deprived of affliction.
Forever in the mindset of what should be
Eyes transfixed upon every fragile moment.

Is this not the life you perpetually seek?
Is this not the prayer you silently speak?
Is this not the future you wish to keep?

Then let not the Devil seduce
With erotic murmurings and silky caresses.
But undress the vail of his alluring temptation
To see the wretchedness we are ensconced in.
