Critic of The Mountain Man and his Still
Dare a rootless outcast
ascend the piney majesties?
How do the crystallized
grandfathers not rebuke
the bumbling vagrant’s patois
as he tramples the wise
ancients in search of his secret still?
Does he, so rugged and unrefined
deserve a place in nature divine?
The earth grovels as a voice speaks through the bending trees
“Only a man creates perfections out of straight lines. Why do the jubilant tribes of poor hermits prepare feast and praise toward the western missionary that comes with thoughts of pity, a gavel of a mind, and a tongue longing to instruct? Allow the fool to draw from the still-pipe of his own thoughts, opening the drain to flush the dreg-constraints your ‘discernments’ have placed, and watch as his wisdom surpasses your own.”
