Big Cat Falls
i CONFLAGRATION
Hell
Vexations’ body
Arresting spirit’s wings
I’ve held its company
But none compare with hers
Heat that melts the very hills
Fumes choking orange sky’s throat
Bathing in no oceans
No clouds’ respite
Rendering hope
Black
ii EMINENCE
A basin filled with Mother’s tears
The Big Cat leaping into Her
Where willows and Her needle trees
Enjoin to give her place of rest
Begun in chants and sacred songs
With smoke to all four winds extends
A pool then graced for her alone
With Elder, Mint, and Cedar bark
I brought her there to quench the fires
With berry-wine and thistle milk
Caressed her lips to give her strength
Her Mother’s healing waters spread
Steams rising both from skin and pool
Her scent combines with Earth’s perfumes
The doves begin their song above
Cicadas playing out the tune
And so I stayed and breathed her in
Her fever claimed the mountain air
She rose renewed before the dawn
And came to me to take me there
