(a sonnet)

I was still new to school when I would fall,
So subterranean, at once I’m smit.
You heard a song of mine in study hall.
A love once known, you claim a favorite.

Our cautious words to love soon giving way.
First you then I would escalate our fate.
You took a song of mine, began to play
With words and thoughts, like eating from my plate.

Then jealous girls, as slighted haters will,
Began with crazy hearts their blind attack.
I went to run, for crazy scares me still.
You stood your ground and calmly drew me back.

At seventeen, I knew what love could do,
But in your love is seventeen I never knew.
