beyond the blue

"I wish I could see beyond the filthy blue horizon, see what lies ahead of me
Perhaps I'd see the path of my own destruction
And avoid my destiny" ~ Everlast

shes dreams of places,
different from where she's been
none of them have felt like home,
forcing her to feed the need to roam

there was a time she relished this
It rejuvenated her spirit
she longed for it

maybe she settled her roots in
a bit too deep for a while
tugging herself free,
putting herself out there,
alone

she thought she had  it all
figured out, but life can throw
some unexpected curve balls,
her heart still aches from the hit

again, she is surrounded
by boxes, her things scattered
like debris, from her past lives
they are part of who she was,
Inescapable reminders of hard
lessons learned

she wishes her path were easier
but that just doesn't seem to be in her cards
she often wonders if she is being punished
for some previous transgressions,
she looks to the blue horizon
for answers,

but it shows her nothing
just the bright  smouldering
sun blinding her,
burning into her
squinting teary eyes,

she grasps the wheel of life
praying it steers her in the right direction,
down the long and winding
open road and need for speed,
are all she has left to her name
