Masked Pain

The lowering of barriers
Not comfortable acknowledging
Haven’t quite learned how to deal
The task for others to decipher
Left complicated

The truth about Masked Pain
That’s used to disguise inner pain
Is it all just pride
Hiding
Feelings of inadequacy
That leads to psychological issues

Masquerading
As real medical problems
Only to hear
There’s nothing physically wrong with you

Instead diagnosed with psychosomatic illness
Layman’s terms
Phantom Illness
Caused by Suppressed Pain

So much energy exerted
To smile
When all you want to do is cry
To sing and dance
When all you want to do is
Curl up and sleep for days

The mask we all wear
From time to time
Have you noticed
The eyes
It’s still revealed

Reason being
The eyes tell no lies
The truth the mask can’t hide
And when you see
It screams
Hey
See me
I’m really hurting
But
I’m hiding my pain
Behind this Mask
Designed
Specially for me
