A Letter to Society

A Letter to Society

Here you are standing on the outside looking in
With your biased gaze already forming an opinion
Looking through my fogged up window panes as
You start to make your ASSumptions
Judging without really knowing and pointing
Accusing fingers at MY imperfections?
Hmmmph.. The audacity!
How dare you call me names!
How dare you say that I’m to blame!
See in your eyes I am always deemed the PROBLEM in society
Guilty until proven innocent
But wait tho! The law says innocent until proven guilty right?
But WHOSE law exactly?
Cause in my case the verdict always remains the same
GUILTY and case closed
But hold on now…
Go ahead and call me your honor cause I’m about to overrule
The bang of my gavel is long overdue
Almost lost myself in your brainwashing education system
Walking to the beat of YOUR drums and dancing in YOUR rhythm
But NO MORE
No longer will you shame me cause of the color of my skin
I have been mentally emancipated
Eradicated from the deep slumber in which I’ve been
Mute no more for my silence has been broken
No longer blind, my eyes are wide open
My OWN history now fully consumes me
Revealing the depths of MY TRUE identity
Now finally ready to take a stand
As my mind starts to really comprehend
But here you are preaching about equality
About racism being dead
All the while blatantly ignoring all the blood being shed
You shouting and screaming “let it go”, “get over it” and “leave the past in the past!!!”
Excuse my French but “fuck outta here with that” now you bout to hear me full blast!
So “NO” I will not let it go, I can’t just ‘get over it’
As you sit on your ignorant ass reaping the benefits
As for me I can still feel the scars of my ancestors that I bare
So don’t come at me preaching peace and love acting like you really care
Until you can walk a day in my shoes
You will never know what it is to be me
So be quiet and take a seat cause you’ll never understand
And you’ll never truly see
Until history can be rewritten, where YOU are deemed the oppressed
And a reciprocation of actions takes place, roles switched and reversed
Well you’ll just have to continue to excuse my french again I say “Fuck outta here”
But… know this, one day justice will be served and watch out for it, judgment day
Is drawing near
