the wrong man

he is excited for their date
she drives, well because she wants too, really,
he is handsome, a corporate guy,
who is on an ego trip
guess he thought it would be
fun to be with someone
like her
she finds herself
comfortable, but bored with his
chit chat, which never stops by the way
it's like the air will evaporate
if he can't fill it with
something, she doesn't say much
cause he's not the type that listens
he would rather hear himself,
she's been here before

she can see that with
all the info he has
shared about himself,
he expects her to fawn over him,
she finds herself feeling
an underlying tone of annoyance,
which she tries to hide
behind her smile
and a yawn behind her palm
which, she is certain he didn't even notice

she drops him off
not to his door,
he was visibly disappointed,
making small talk now
about how he'd like to do
this again,
she would have looked at her watch
if she had one,
she just looked at him and smiled,
said hmmm sure, you let me know when it works
for you, because she already knew
that wasn't going to happen
