Butterflies
Sweaty palms
Better dry my hands quick
She won’t like them
I gotta make a good impression
I’m getting nervous
My heart is drumming
I’m wondering what to wear
And what she’ll wear?
Hopefully a dress
But then again
What if she does
And I’m in my jeans?
I’ll be a scruff next to this queen
Hopefully she’ll be in them too
But is that what I want?
It’s like she didn’t even try
To impress me or look good
A dress it is
And I’ll wear my favourite top
God this is nerve wracking
How will I spend the next few hours
I’ve never even touched a girl before
Yet here I am
About to embark on a journey
The transition
From boy to man
Scratching the bum fluff on my chin
I’m hoping it’s a success
That she’s happy she spent
A wonderful evening with me
Because I know
No matter what
It will be for me
Unless I do something retarded
I look in the mirror
Try taming my awful hair
Maybe a little flick at the end
I’m tempted to pop my collar
But maybe that’s too much
Suddenly a smile
At my own stupidity
Pushing my chubby cheeks aside
Exposing my rather goofy teeth
My heart still beating
Racing
It must have a mind of its own
I’m making my way out
With my shiny new converses
My brother nudges elbow
“Give her one from me”
The idiot
I’ll be lucky to even hold her hands
With these sweaty palms
And I make my way
Into a world of fear and delight
With butterflies in my stomach
Into new realms
As I’m about to begin my first date
Better dry my hands quick
She won’t like them
I gotta make a good impression
I’m getting nervous
My heart is drumming
I’m wondering what to wear
And what she’ll wear?
Hopefully a dress
