Rifting
Unsettling is the strain of your ears splitting as your roof rifts and the shingles begin to drop one by one onto the floor around you, and you try to pick them up with your kid gloves but then you finger shattered glass and you panic thinking of how you almost sat down in defeat but you didn’t because your house is still strong, and the foundation is still there so there’s no need to worry, because mum is there and so is dad, and they’ll always be right there by the bay window; the one where the sun shines in and the colors of mum’s face dance like rainbows because dad loves her too much to let her leave the window, and mum never says no.
