chemicals to addict and kill

Walking past my door above the bar beneath me
The first wave of second hand smoke assaults my senses
My eyes burn, my nose burns, my throat burns
And then it hits my head like a jack-hammer
I don't want that pollution drifting inside of me
The stench would be enough to turn me off
But the headache it hits me with drives me away
There seems no distance far enough away
When you crossed my path I thought "what a shame"
Your pretty face has turned three shades of ash
As the snake you puff sucks the pink out of your skin
And yet you invite the killer in like a welcome lover
Even after it murdered your parents and then mine
Knowing the pain they suffered from inhaling their final breaths
Knowing it will be your torture to suffer before you are finally dead
After wishing and waiting for the lung cancer to kill you
You will light another coffin nail, coughin' out your life
Filled with unknown additives and addictive chemicals
How ironic, you hated the smell, despised the taste and cursed the burn
Yet now you embrace the deterioration of your face
Like tattoos that reflect your mother's age
Cracked lines form like a dried dessert landscape
Smoke your life away if that is what you really want
But do it without me around, as far away as you can
I'm not going to hold your hand as you slowly die
The way I held my father's hand and felt it go cold in mine
Lung cancer still suffocated him years after he quit
Find someone else to comfort your conscience
As you inhale your final breath in one last painful gasp
