Missed
Like all basic human activities
We only miss them when they are gone
When we no longer have that ability
Yet the blind see more through imagination
Through imagination the deaf hear symphonies
The dumb know, saying nothing speaks volumes
They took my leg and I cannot walk with you
They plan to take the other I cannot dance with you
But don’t look down at me in this wheelchair with pity
Instead embrace me in the silence and stillness of the night
And we will scale mountains together just you and I
And we will dance the night away on royal blue clouds
What makes me a cripple is what keeps me a cripple
If we meld out imaginations normality returns
As does happiness enough to heal wayward stumps
This is the only wish I ask you to grant
Just one hug, one warm lingering hug
Then there is nothing to miss, nothing at all
We only miss them when they are gone
When we no longer have that ability
Yet the blind see more through imagination
Through imagination the deaf hear symphonies
The dumb know, saying nothing speaks volumes
They took my leg and I cannot walk with you
They plan to take the other I cannot dance with you
But don’t look down at me in this wheelchair with pity
Instead embrace me in the silence and stillness of the night
And we will scale mountains together just you and I
And we will dance the night away on royal blue clouds
What makes me a cripple is what keeps me a cripple
If we meld out imaginations normality returns
As does happiness enough to heal wayward stumps
This is the only wish I ask you to grant
Just one hug, one warm lingering hug
Then there is nothing to miss, nothing at all
