"Not Like the Others"

You lied to me.
You told me all these sweet things.
You told me you had fallen for me.
And I felt the same way.
With you I felt like nothing could go wrong.
You were so sweet and caring,
Almost too good to be true.
And you were.

Yes, you were sweet and oh so sensitive,
But not just to me.
I looked behind you and there they were…
A sea of other girls you had also lied to.

I realized then, that I wasn’t so different,
Like you had said.
Just another toy you played with.
To make yourself feel great.

You told me I was different,
That we had so much in common.
That I was special…
I can’t believe I swallowed it all.

I thought you were different too.
I thought you were telling me the truth…
You promised me you were going to.
Why did you lie then?
You didn’t need to sweet talk me,
To say that you had fallen for me too,
I would’ve been fine if you didn’t.
I would’ve still been there for you.

But no, you had to lie.
I feel so stupid.
I feel even worse for having waited for your phone call…
I never told you this, but your phone call is what I looked forward to all day.
To hear your voice.
Made all the pain go away.

When we talked I felt like I was floating along a stream,
Of never ending happiness.
But it all came to an end,
Just like your lies.
I saw the truth, how you had all those other girls the same sweet story…
Tell me, was I any different?
Maybe I was because I made you laugh.
But I doubt it….
That’s probably what you told all those other girls too..
Including your “I love you.”

I don’t hate you, even though your lies stabbed across my heart.
I’ll still be there for you even if it tears me apart.
Because I know I’ll be over you sooner or later.
Because even though you didn’t realize it
I was different from the others.
