Letters Home

She waits patiently by the phone,
In hopes it doesn't ring as it has a few times before.
It's been six months to the day, that's one more, she's sure.
She's lost a father, and a brother,
Heard sorrows from her mother,
half her family fell victim to a foreign war.

She sits up at night, cries in fright, she'll see her son no more.
Only letters home to comfort her
as she reads of blood and gore.
If the post marks keep coming that means her son is still gunning, though she doesn't know what for.

It reads, "It's a dangerous battle,
Up shit creek i paddle, and my trigger finger is sore. There's plenty more bullets, and a safety switch though I never pull it.
I love you mom and dont worry. with this sand things are blurry. Soon I'll be knocking on your door."
Love Sgt Timothy U.S Marine Corps..

No son in sight, "Did he go down in flight? Please war office tell me more!"
No ma'am please sit down, the young Sergeant signed up for another tour."

Afghanistan bound, soon his boots will hit ground, weapon oiled up once more. He finds his job easy as he reaches the LZ, and sends his post mark off shore.

It reads "Mom I'm sorry, and the government feeds me hardy,
I'll be home after we knock down a few doors. This one should be easy if the enemy doesn't see me, but that's what this 2-2-3 is for.
Life out here is bullets and lead, if they move their dead, that's our motto of war. A few of my friends fell, it hurts like hell, I'll be home as said before.. PS thanks for the magazine, it took my mind off things, I made it to page 54, I marked my spot in case I'm caught, my captivity  won't be a bore."
Signed Sgt,Timothy U.S. Marine Corps
