You Are My 3 A.M Thoughts

Late night has its way
of enticing thoughts from the darkness
that I would rather leave untouched.

And among those thoughts
and meaningless questions
is you.

I cannot escape your scent
Or the thoughts it evokes.
I blame the jacket you left for
The source of this problem.

And every song that I play
In some attempt to lull myself
to sleep, only reminds me of the
way you like to slowdance in the
kitchen after my parents have gone
to bed.

And though I have slept alone
in this bed for seventeen years
it has never felt quite so empty
as it does tonight.
I blame the way you like to hold me
close to your side for this.
Because now it doesn't feel right
when I'm lying here alone.

It is 3AM
and my only thoughts
are of you.
