Sorry, I Can't Lie
You take me from my family,
You strip me of my Nationality justa try and get me to believe in your reality/?
Banish my religion and abolish my language
As I cringe at the sight of another Brown boy’s skin bein’ singed/
And no I can’t run away cuz I can still feel the bruises from the beating I got yesterday/
But deep down inside somehow, someway I still think it’ll all get better someday/
But unfortunately that someday is still too fucking far away
It’s like a distant memory I haven’t even dreamed/
And I remember how it seemed like the torment and torture would never, ever end/
And how that day in ’96 was supposed to be a Godsend
But in the end it was the Devil himself dressed in a disguise/
Cuz now every time I close our eyes all we see is/
More fears, more tears, more pain, more distain,
More alienation and separation from the Treaty you signed for our rehabilitation/
Cuz our People used to be so peaceful and resourceful, quiet and respectful livin’ off the land/ with values and teachings passed down hand by hand/
Yeah we used to be the epitome of family orientated
But now our ways have faded and been outdated “Assimilation” is overrated/
PRECHORUS
When you’re fighting for your life on the Trail of Tears and tryna hide your deepest fears from the Preachers and Teachers and missin’ you brothers and sisters, mother and father yeah
CHORUS
When the Eagles are no longer flying
And the Buffalo are no longer charging
It hurts too damn much for us to testify,
But we can’t let our spirits die so
Sorry, we can’t lie,
But we gotta say goodbye...goodbye...goodbye,
Sorry we can’t lie
(Verse)
We did not ask to join your Cult what put us at fault to have our lives come to a halt/?
Please just tell me what was the point of the salt in our wounds after the assault/?
Because the pain you made us feel is so fucking real
It’s like a wound that will never be revealed so how could it ever begin to heal/?
You say you wanna make right the wrongs of the past
But you’ve got no idea how long these scars and pain will last/!
How can you bring back an entire religion?
And ease the memories of molestation
While breaking down the walls of segregation in a modern day nation/?
You can’t/
So just take a second to take a step back
And realize that whether you’ve got brown eyes or green
Once you’ve seen the Hell we’ve been through because of you
Maybe you will understand why we draw the line in the sand where we stand/
Because we can’t stay quiet in this world or in this land any longer/
Yeah we all gotta voice and I can feel it echoin’ off the walls of my soul with the strength of the Buffalo chargin’/
And I know this ain’t even the beginnin’ of what it’s gonna take to start the healin’ all I’m sayin’ is/
We won’t let the Old break us down now
Cuz we’re gonna let our love re-make us, our strength define us, and our spirits guide us because
PRECHOURS
When you’re fighting for your life on the trail of tears and tryna hide your deepest fears from the Preachers and Teachers and missin’ you brothers and sisters, mother and father yeah
CHORUS
When the Eagles are no longer flying
And the Buffalo are no longer charging
It hurts too damn much for us to testify,

(Verse)
We did not ask to join your Cult what put us at fault to have our lives come to a halt/?
Please just tell me what was the point of the salt in our wounds after the assault/?
Cuz in the end our Castle has fallen into the sand
What’s the point of takin’ a stand/? There’s nothing left for us to defend
And no safe place for us to land/
Did you get what you wanted outta these Residential Schools/?
Why the fuck did you have to be so damn cruel/?
And I’m not just talking about way back then,
But also right now in the present day/
I mean yeah things have gotten a lot better since that day in 1840/
But I still can’t help thinkin’ when’s the next time you’re gonna board me onto a bus en route to Mission/?
Is this really your Lord’s vision
Or are ya just makin’ your own decisions
Have you even taken into consideration our feelings and well beings/?
What makes us any different than any other Human Beings that come from far away to call Canada home/?
I mean Canada was our home
And we graciously gave it to you without a loan and accepted you in as our own/
But now all I can think about is how maybe we should have kept it for ourselves
And been a little bit more selfish/
Cuz somewhere along the way we let the Devil find us
And he made even the smallest things blind us and then you made us sing
PRECHORUS
When you’re fighting for your life on the trail of tears and tryna hide your deepest fears from the Preachers and Teachers and missin’ you brothers and sisters, mother and father yeah
CHORUS(X2)
When the Eagles are no longer flying
And the Buffalo are no longer charging
It hurts too damn much for us to testify,
But we can’t let our spirits die so
Sorry, we can’t lie,
But we gotta say goodbye...goodbye...goodbye,
Sorry we can’t lie
