Gully Cricket- Indian Style

(Gully is a common Indian word for ally or lane)

Imagine
Young skinny boys
and young skinny girls
With unkempt hair
and chocolate brown skin

Waking up every morning
at the hot 45'C heat
In the month of may

The gullies are small
probably a car's width
And young skinny boys
with young skinny girls
Always throw a fit

"You can't be in my team, you can't run between wickets"
One excuse or the other
But it all gets sorted it out sooner or later

"Be careful, if you hit a six
The aunty will throw a fit
Don't run when you hit a four
Unless you are really really sure"

"You broke that man's window
No cries, no begs, no bows
No universal truths or ascetic vows
is going to save you now"

Community pooling
rupee by rupee
"There goes our meagre earnings
Sigh! Summers lovin'
and painfully gaining
Pleasures
