Stranger
.
The ebb of evening
wrapped in its midnight,
was a friend to me, even in my crib.
But a night light
casting shadows
stretched across the floor
to a door cracked open,
an unseen stranger
hiding there from me,
watching, unblinking
doing things
I couldn't see,
but I could hear
its raspy breath,
the shuffling sounds it made.
For it's the little ones
who cannot name it,
but their minds fit in between,
between the ribs where I sat
crouched looking out,
waiting... and knowing.
And I still do.
The ebb of evening
wrapped in its midnight,
was a friend to me, even in my crib.
But a night light
casting shadows
stretched across the floor
to a door cracked open,
an unseen stranger
hiding there from me,
watching, unblinking
doing things
I couldn't see,
but I could hear
its raspy breath,
the shuffling sounds it made.
For it's the little ones
who cannot name it,
but their minds fit in between,
between the ribs where I sat
crouched looking out,
waiting... and knowing.
And I still do.

Miss Jade[y], I had to read this poem twice to grasp its intentional meaning; a chilling write, even for a world of beautiful poetry. . .Enjoyed. . .xo, Devlin.

Thank you, dear Devllin, for allowing yourself to be embraced by my poem as you have taken great care to understand what it means to embrace it in return. One learns as time goes by that as an artist, the world of words can be beautiful even as they can be dangerous. How true that is about all of life. -- Jadey <3

Re: Re. Stranger
I've been speechless from how you have honored me in your feedback, but can now attempt a reply to one who was my 2nd following when I first came to this site a mere 17 days ago. So much has already begun to happen that shows me how coming here (through a dear friend) has not been a misstep. That 2nd poet I chose to follow? It was you, dear. (the 1st was the friend who enlightened me to DUP) I want to spend some extra time getting to know your poet's "voice" even as you grow (according to what you said in your profile). And from one who knows from years of dedication to her word craft, through times of tentative writing and long nights of her confidence being challenged when all was quiet except for the static in that silence when night creeps through a writer's brain and their very soul, I can promise you that as long as you stay true to your writer's heart and listen and act on the whispers of your muse every single time you hear it (never ignore it because you never know what will be lost through your negligence -- I'm too tired, I don't feel well, not tonight, I'll listen tomorrow after I've had breakfast, or when I get home from work...), you'll start to recognize that you have arrived. And once you do, you need to build upon the drive that a poet has once they have traversed through the flames that continue to test you no matter how long you intend to practice the art and expression of art and music and so much more through the dedicated journey that you're on right now. It's not a hobby for me, it's the life that travels above and through the firmament of the core that is myself, and from what I've read from your profile, you have sworn an oath to yourself that you will be true to who and what you are as an artist of words. I hope you don't mind that I rambled on so. In fact, I will c/p my reply/comment over on my profile as a way to give those visiting me another way to understand what drives me as a poet. Thank you dear heart for giving me so much in the deceptive simplicity from the gift of this one sentence of yours. -- Jadey <3

*soft intake of her breath at the sound of your name and whispers it...* Chanel...
I knew it would be a beautiful name, it takes my breath away.
I'm so glad I was still near when you returned, I'll soon be shutting down to get some rest before helping out with preparations for today's holiday feasting.
I know you're writing is going to one day seem to you like it has taken flight, to take you where you've always dreamed of being because your comments alone are as poetry. I'm so pleased that you weren't taken aback by how much of a reply I left for you. So often all I have to do is let my fingers do the communication while my mind can seek out the imagery, the visuals that inspire what I want to say.
I will be posting one more piece before I go for the time being. The one I just posted a few minutes ago is an example of the Buddhist side of me, and if you read it gracefully it will actually help a reader feel a zen-like spirit overtake them and feel at ease. I'm almost sure it will do this for you.
Until later, may this holiday be all you hope for. Take care, dear Chanel, and thank you. -- Jadey <3

Thank you so much, Tod, for sharing that, it was most generous of you in the embracing of my piece. <3
