You

I smell like second-hand smoke
And I can't wash you out of my hair
And I'm so sorry I'm not pretty
But now I'm left alone
With a crushed cigarette
Under my foot

I was nobody and
You were somebody
And you smelled like smoke
But not from the cigarettes
That I had fallen in love with
But you smelled like fire
And now I light matches
And I smell you on my fingertips

I used to want
To burn the world.
But then you touched me
With hands that wanted
To see
To feel
To be in the world
You stroked my hair,
While you stabbed my back.

The night sky is in your hair,
And the mountains flow through your veins
You hands are worn,
And your voice cracks
While you say pretty words
I want to but I can't
Believe.
You seem so worn.
But I am too

You want the girl
With pretty skin
With a cigarette
Between her
Perfect
Pretty
Lips.
And I am the girl
With fire in her eyes,
choking on your smoke
because there's no more room
In my lungs.
They're too full of
The words I'll never say to you
Because you chose her.

I see you
With the beautiful girls.
They have flowers in their hair,
Stars in their eyes,
Dreams on their tongues,
And laughter on their lips.
I ask if you love them.
You say no.
But I think you're lying.
Because you don't want to see me cry.
But you've made me cry before.
Why is this time different?

I want
The stars
But the only
Ones I can reach
Are the ones in your eyes.
And now I'm too afraid
To look at the sky
Because I don't want to
See your smile in the constellations

I told you I wanted to see the stars.
So you built me a rocketship.
I told you I wanted love.
So you got in your rocketship.
and blasted off without me
