Image for the poem Bury Me

Bury Me

 Bury me somewhere that’s quiet
Far from the sounds of war
A place for quiet contemplation
Where peaceful thoughts can restore

Bury me somewhere that’s quiet
Not left under piles of rubble
Give me the plot I desire
A place that avoids any trouble

Bury me somewhere that’s quiet
Away from the gun and the shell
Away from the pounding of cannons
Where silently forever I can dwell

Bury me somewhere that’s quiet
Far from the cries and the screams
Away from the sounds of the dying
where peace is the right stuff of dreams

Bury me somewhere that’s quiet
And not with all of the boys
In life they were war time comrades
But I’m fed up with all of the noise

Bury me somewhere that’s quiet
My last and final request
This soldier is ever so tired
And needs to peacefully rest
