The Familiarity of Angel (friendship (?)

There's a guy I'm beginning to know
With tinges of sadness that's  beginning to show

There's a pain in him that is like the one in me
No one knows and few can even see

I'd love to take the pain away
But he wouldn't feel the same way

It isn't love but it feels familiar
Is it because our pain is similar?

Things are nice when you just don't know
Which way the path you're on will go
