The lily and the rose
If I would but compare thee
I must search the world
and more, heaven not too far
yet my love, my search
will be frustrated .
Where the lily and the rose
with petals to compare;
butterfly wings soft as those
I kiss each time we love,
set in gentle folds
to lose myself reluctant
leave when we have done.
Duty mixed with pleasure
shared to dream, day long hours
afraid to wake, 'though should,
I shall see stars shining,
eyes bright, filled with love
dark pupils, piercing deep,
as deep I lie,
