Self-Awareness of Whitney West
It’s hilarious how typical introductions start with the basic things explaining about an individual. However, in my opinion, what introductions REALLY are, is ways to discover an individual's mental, physical, emotional, and geographic condition. Yes, people would like to know the GENERAL INFORMATION, but they also would like to know WHO YOU ARE. Therefore, I am beauty with success in my eyes. I am the sun and when you look up I rise. I speak with my head held high. I am Whitney West the poet of infinite measures, I am infinite beauty.
There I was, a young brown skin teenager walking the streets of Washington, DC. I received the opportunity to experience one of the greatest charter schools in Northeast, I felt ALIVE! I just finished dealing with my soul crawling from the pits of hell where the dark Lord himself screamed, pushed, and prevailed! But I shall not fail, for I am Whitney. Later, I graduated with love, knowledge, and experience to further my development…
I first start my journey of higher education at Norfolk State University (NSU). People explained how NSU was the party school. I responded, “Well I like to party too.” Yes, I had fun, pop bottles, smoked weed, but this woman knew the goals of her dreams. I desired to accomplish the barriers of the wick screams. But the main goal was to become a professional. I felt the need to redeem society from its oppression and deception of trickery politics and hidden crap from asses with diamond outsides and disease insides.
Now, I will transition to my next mission… When I first made the decision to want to become a Social Worker, I was a second semester freshman. Initially I was a mass communications major, but when I took my first mass communications course at NSU, I knew that mass communications was not my purpose on Earth. When I took Intro to Social Work I felt confident and passionate for helping adolescents. As a result, I wanted to start early building my resume and experience as an upcoming Social Worker. Eventually, I became active in various jobs and activities pertaining to the profession. After two years of great education and involvement, I received a womb of temptation. I moved back to Washington, DC and picked up many certifications. In the process of transiting, I knew that I had to finish my journey of receiving my degree in Social Work. Therefore, I joined the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) in the fall semester of 2014 sensation. After a year of being a part of UDC, I have networked with many professionals along with peers learning citations, cooperation, and how to have an articulate conversation.
In the process of participating in opportunities in the field of social work, I have done jobs that do not pertain to the profession. I have done many jobs relating to customer service such as, Waitress, Sales Associate, Receptionist, and Porter. Although, I have realized that the past jobs that I have done do not relate completely with social work, however, they are customer service positions. Customer service will always be a necessity in the field of social work. However, I have goals and a plan. I want to start a nonprofit organization for the youth in Washington, DC public middle and high schools.
I am thankful for the jobs, internships, and leadership opportunities I have done. With my set goals and plans, I know that I will have helped thousands of individuals and students located in the communities of Washington, DC. Eventually, I will expand my organization because not just does Washington, DC youth need help biologically, psychologically, and sociologically, other youth here in America need it as well. I will be an awesome licensed Social Worker right here and everywhere in the world around the chocolate city.
