-bag of shadows
I'm used to foreseeing my death
in the eyes of the ones I care for most;
love may as well be strangers I've passed
uninterested in trying to make eye contact
since it's never felt like it was intended for me
why bother putting on a show
most days feel like
I left my smile in the dark
it's hard to remember dreams
without confronting lifeless faces I've chosen
so I continue to hide from yesterday
where it feels deceivingly safe
to sit and feed demons
from my bag of shadows

Nice to see you, Brenda. I haven't been writing much, sorry you can relate, lol...
Thanks...

I totally get this, my friend. Very complex indeed. It's always strange to compliment someone's pain but it's a very fine write, nonetheless.

Yes, the same as my hesitant joy that others can relate. Thanks for stopping in, Hades...

it's a little sack cloth & ashes, no? but for all that, it reads well ...
"I'm used to foreseeing my death
in the eyes of the ones I care for most;
love may as well be strangers I've past
uninterested in trying to make eye contact"
... "passed" is the correct past participle for pass, unless i'm reading all wrong... in which case, ignore me & just carry on
*
i like the play of death/dark/shadows, it's got a nice continuity to it ...
"where it feels deceivingly safe
to sit and feed demons
from my bag of shadows"
... got some utterly deranged imagery from that (love it though) it's quite padded walls, straight jackets & lunatic mutterings
^^^^
quite partial to those lines for some reason ltm
//
anyhoooos, interesting ink Ed. the hopelessness is palpable ...
... reads a bit differently for you, can't put my finger on why but it's not an unpleasant sort of different
[if that makes sense at all]

Re: Re. bag of shadows
Thanks a lot for the awesome critique, my dear. Especially the embarrassing grammar. I was super tired last night. Bleh...
As you know I haven't written much for some time. I've been wanting to do something different. Which you also know. I didn't realize it actually was though, huh...
You're such a fascinating and amazing muse it's been tough to get away from writing about you. You're the one that really turned me on to dark poetry and the beauty of it. I think the dark stuff I write will always have a bit of your influence.

This is a really deep piece.
I literally felt the emotions of this write.
It's such a beautifully dark complexity.
Excellent Write Ed!!!
