The Way It Is
The Way It Is
Deep in the far back past
It seems I’m failing
Making the good times last
It’s what I’m trying
Right on the tip of my memory
But I can’t recall that far back
Way in the darkest past
I’m making my way far back
Making those dark times last
I have no problem
Right on the tip of my tongue
And I can see it all
Why is it that I can’t see?
The happiest memories
I fall into all I’ve been
Except a happier man
Is it the preponderance?
Of all of the things I’ve seen
Washed out visions of happiness
A dream that fades when I awake
Darker times I can see so clear
Awake or asleep they’re so damn near
And happiness disappears
Happiness fails til it’s so unclear
Deep in the lightest past
I try to go but can’t make it last
I wonder why that is?
I wonder why that’s the way it’s been
For many days and the longest nights
Why is that the way it is?
Deep in the far back past
It seems I’m failing
Making the good times last
It’s what I’m trying
Right on the tip of my memory
But I can’t recall that far back
Way in the darkest past
I’m making my way far back
Making those dark times last
I have no problem
Right on the tip of my tongue
And I can see it all
Why is it that I can’t see?
The happiest memories
I fall into all I’ve been
Except a happier man
Is it the preponderance?
Of all of the things I’ve seen
Washed out visions of happiness
A dream that fades when I awake
Darker times I can see so clear
Awake or asleep they’re so damn near
And happiness disappears
Happiness fails til it’s so unclear
Deep in the lightest past
I try to go but can’t make it last
I wonder why that is?
I wonder why that’s the way it’s been
For many days and the longest nights
Why is that the way it is?
