The Side Road
I followed the main highway at the beginning of my life
A wife; a career and family, without undue strife.
There came a time when change was due,
The daughters grown; time to renew
We could have stayed until I retired;
But such a path was not desired.
Sell up and be self employed;
Taking risks that could be enjoyed
Making toys and country living,
Suited us without misgiving,
Gardening and house building,
Brings a warm and cosy feeling
Could my life have been fulfilling
Had I pursued my original calling
Looking back I am pleased
That the by-road was seized
A wife; a career and family, without undue strife.
There came a time when change was due,
The daughters grown; time to renew
We could have stayed until I retired;
But such a path was not desired.
Sell up and be self employed;
Taking risks that could be enjoyed
Making toys and country living,
Suited us without misgiving,
Gardening and house building,
Brings a warm and cosy feeling
Could my life have been fulfilling
Had I pursued my original calling
Looking back I am pleased
That the by-road was seized
