Asylum Daydream

Asylum Daydream

                Somnambulistic gargoyles leer
                from perches of despair
atop an ancient edifice of stone
                dead eyes staring vacantly
                into fetid air
                patiently awaiting things unknown

                Twisted clouds traverse the sky
as if in search of prey
morphing into forms no eye should see
                evil voices in the breeze
                whisper all the day
                mouthing words unfit for sanity

                Bat-winged beings scratch and claw
                at fleeing forms below
feasting on the flesh they tear away
                then fly off to copulate
                with faceless things that glow
in caverns hidden from the light of day

Thus it goes upon a world
                beyond the reach of sin
a world no mortal man would dare conceive
                for the fear of madness
                that would surely enter in
and compromise his means to disbelieve
