Sisyphus Before Me?

War is inevitable so many will say
the rich get richer in a myriad of ways
politics is useless so full of scum
voters follow like sheep ever so dumb

Corporate interests dominate all
with business so big they never can fall
public servants are no longer heroes
effective negotiators on the news are zeroes

So why even invest one minute in political acts
an arena where candidates always must watch their backs
better to pursue the arts or maybe smoke some weed
find an attractive mate and get on with the deed

Yet no one can persuade me that we born to love war
when I see two toddlers helping each other I see an open door
learned from my anger on the court in junior high
that hitting another person isn't where an answer lies

We all are bettered when that angry youngster learns to relate
to that one seen as an enemy and then removing that hate
the awareness that there are others who want you always apart
collectively much can be done to heal all the broken hearts

Lennon said he was a dreamer, well I know he wasn't the only one
so I will look for a civic renewal until the day I am done
when each of us can say because of our efforts even one person smiled
so linked to bliss whether a man, woman, or child
