Ever Rolling Stream

On and on it rolls
time immemorial to endless times
on them it takes its toll
round and round without a sign

It gives and it claims
no one can question why
not the wild nor the tamed
can avoid a time to cry

From the womb they form desires
out here they are caged in
encircled by life's burning fire
battling with what they cannot win

Fate holds all fast
they think a way and act the other
no matter how long they last
no matter how long they suffer

To live is an urge that was given
and pleasure is the good
all the answers await in heaven
soon the humble and the rude

Will get their fair share
of what knowledge will reveal
no parting tears no farewell
once they open the seal

It will be long nights and dreamless sleeps
cool breeze and painless plays
for those whose courage keep
and those that fall astray

Even then like an ever rolling stream
time will keep bearing her sons
no end to this cosmic film
no stopping the light of the sun
