all I wish is for you & your arms, held
tight around my belly, my chest (keeping the organs & sawdust inside);
we'll sit, together, listening to the rain
dance a tarantella on the roof & I'll wonder
whether there was ever a point to life
unless I was wrapped up in the nest of your affection — the rain drummed its wet fingers
on the window & drained my head of all thoughts; you bathe me in the ecstasy of ignorance. I'll stay
by your side tonight, although we are a thousand miles apart, we are
a part
of each other—I think that's art. you are the patches on the rusty hull of
my body; I hold you up & you
calm me down, we have two hearts &
one soul. my throat explodes with love notes & cannon fire—ship sunk.
I cannot live forever but your fingers in my hair feel damn good on my dying skin.
